FASFC warns against unsafe supplements on the internet

November 15, 2023 by

If you want to buy food supplements online, you need to be careful. Not all food supplements offered on the internet are safe or reliable. The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC), which checks postal parcels together with customs, has found that 1 in 2 food supplements do not meet the legal standards. They may contain substances that can be harmful to your health and are not legally allowed in food supplements.

At ProWell we only offer food supplements approved by the FASFC, which is why we think it is important to inform you about how to recognise reliable food supplements.

Here are some tips:

  • Always check whether a NUT number is stated on the packaging. It looks like NUT/AS162/597 or NUT/PL162/597, depending on whether the food supplement contains not only nutrients (NUT = vitamins/minerals) but also plants (PL) or other substances (AS).
  • Pay attention to the claims the product makes. If it promises that you will lose weight fast, build muscle or cure diseases, it is probably too good to be true. Medical claims are prohibited for food supplements.
  • Be extra careful around Black Friday. Some sellers may take advantage of the sales day to sell you unsafe or fake products.

Earlier this year, ProWell once again achieved an excellent inspection result after an FASFC inspection!
